Red Hardback. Zustand: Good. First Edition. 1955. First UK edition. 208pp., a frontispiece portrait and 23 other black and white illustrations. This is the autobiography of Georges Carpentier (1894-1975). a French boxer, actor and World War I pilot. He fought mainly as a light heavyweight and heavyweight in a career lasting from 1908 to 1926. Nicknamed the "Orchid Man", he was known for his speed, his excellent boxing skills and his extremely hard punch. The Parisian Sports Arena Halle Georges Carpentier is named after him. The book is bound in the original red cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and a small gold illustration of boxing gloves on the front board. The case of the book is in good condition with shelf wear and some soiling on the boards. The spine is faded with light bumping to the spine ends and there is a split in the cloth of about 1 1/4" on the rear spine edge. The contents are tight and clean with some foxing on the free endpapers and first few pages, including some marks on the title page. A name has been written in pencil on the front free endpaper.
