Second edition. 244 pp., photogravure frontispiece, tissue guard; octavo, original red pictorial cloth with gitl title, black and orange ornaments and inset oval photograph of a woman spinning a lariat Brininstool was born in New York but lived most of his life in Los Angeles. He never worked as a cowboy, but his cowboy verse was well regarded by the likes of Charles Russell and Will Rogers, with whom he fraternized. Slight fading to spine, minor foxing to first couple leaves, fore-edge of tissue guard darkened, near fine.

This report was issued by the Committee on Internal Security, which was formerly known as the House Committee on Un-American Activities and was created in 1938 to investigate alleged disloyalty and subversive activities on the part of private citizens, public employees and organizations suspected of having Communist ties. Having been newly re-branded in 1969, the Committee turned its attention to the Black Panther Party. The investigation of the Black Panthers was conducted with considerably more zeal than the Communist witch-hunts of the 1950s. The F.B.I. and local California police in general waged a deadly war against the Panthers, all of which is documented in this report; illustrated throughout with the reproduction of photographs and facsimilies; internally in fine condition. The condition of the report is NEAR FINE. Only five copies located on OCLC/WorldCat. RARE; especially so in such nice condition.

Portlock Was In Command Of The Larger Vessel, The 320-Ton (Bm) King George, With A Crew Of 59. Dixon's Was In Command Of The 200-Ton (Bm) Queen Charlotte, With A Crew Of 33. Dixon And Portlock Sailed Together For Most Of Their Three-Year Voyage. They Crossed The Atlantic Ocean, Reaching The Falkland Islands In January 1786, And Transited Cape Horn To Enter The Pacific Ocean. They Reached The Hawaiian Islands On 24 May And Anchored In Kealakekua Bay (Where Cook Had Been Killed In 1779), But Did Not Go Ashore. They Took On Fresh Food At Other Hawaiian Islands And Proceeded On To What Is Now Alaska. After Two Years Of Plying The Waters, Portlock And Dixon Departed North America, Reaching Macao In November 1788. On Their Return Portlock And Dixon Published An Account Of The Voyage, Based In Part On Letters Written By William Beresford, The Trader On The Expedition. Portlock Harbor, A Bay On The West Coast Of Alaska's Chichagof Island, Was Named By Portlock In 1789, Following A Visit There In August 1787. Portlock, A Cannery Settlement Active In The Early And Middle 20Th Century, And Portlock Glacier, Both On Alaska's Kenai Peninsula, Were Named In His Honor.
