Erstausgabe
First edition, first printing, of Thomas's rare first book, a collection of 88 poems. This collection is scarce both in commerce and institutionally, with only two copies traced worldwide, at Yale and Sewanee. Elisabeth Finley Thomas was primarily an artist, studying at the Académie Julian and the Art Students League of New York. Thomas became a member of the New York Women's Art Club in 1889, which later evolved into the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors. She wrote for the New York Morning Telegraph for over 15 years and her short stories were regularly published in The Century Magazine and Harper's Bazaar. Living mostly in New York, where she was a renowned hostess, Thomas also spent extended periods in Paris. As well as this privately published Parisian work she also translated and edited The Paris We Remember, published in 1942, an anthology of recollections of Paris pre the Second World War. Small octavo. Original limp green reverse calf, titles to spine and front cover in gilt, frame running across covers in black, green marbled endpapers. Spine lightly browned with a couple of tiny scuffs, foxing to book block edges, a very good copy indeed.
