T., Ebd. etw. fleckig vorallem R., leichte Gbrsp. - Freundlich, (1885 - 1964), studierte Mathematik, Physik und Astronomie in Leipzig und Göttingen, wo er 1910 promoviert wurde. 1910-17 arbeitete er als Assistent an der Universitäts-Sternwarte Berlin und wechselte 1920 an das Astrophysikalische Observatorium in Potsdam, dessen Direktor er 1921-33 war. Seine Untersuchungen galten vorwiegend der experimentellen Überprüfung der Einsteinschen Theorie von der Ablenkung des Lichts durch die Schwerkraft, teilweise in Zusammenarbeit mit Albert Einstein. 1933 wurde Freundlich entlassen. Er emigrierte zunächst in die Türkei, 1937 in die CSR und 1939 nach Großbritannien. Zwanzig Jahre später kehrte er nach Deutschland zurück. Er veröffentlichte u.a. Die Grundlagen der Einsteinschen Gravitationstheorie. (DBE).
