Dicho análisis se articula en cuatro bloques, íntimamente relacionados entre sí. En esta obra tienen cabida tanto aproximaciones académicas sobre la materia, como experiencias específicas de participación impulsadas desde la sociedad vasca en torno a ámbitos y cuestiones tan diferenciados como la participación de la juventud y de las personas migrantes, el derecho a decidir o la dimensión comunitaria de los servicios sociales. La búsqueda de un modelo cosmopolita de democracia es la primera de las reflexiones con las que se abre esta obra, y le sigue una presentación de las actuales tensiones entre la visión neoliberal de la democracia y las voces que la contestan. A continuación, en un segundo bloque, se realiza un análisis de los diferentes marcos en los que están emergiendo nuevas formas de democracia, para dar paso, en tercer lugar, al análisis de nuevas formas de participación ciudadana. Estrechamente relacionado con todo ello, el último de los bloques analiza la relevancia de revisitar el marco metodológico y epistemológico desde el que en la actualidad se está generando conocimiento tanto respecto a la democracia como, específicamente, respecto a los mecanismos de participación ciudadana.
