So sehr sich die eine von der anderen dieser Epochen in Geschmack und Stil auch unterscheidet, das Wunder der weiblichen Schönheit (oder das Bizarre ihres Gegenteils) hat Maler zu allen Zeiten zu Meisterwerken inspiriert. Davon gibt Ferrara ohne viele Worte allein durch die Kraft und die Fülle der Bilder Kunde. Kunsthistorisch ist der weibliche Akt "ein verhältnismäßig neues künstlerisches Thema" schreibt Frances Borzello in seiner recht knappen Einleitung.
