Very good book in handsome ochre buckram covers with titles in black to front and a slightly canted spine together with Art Nouveau floral decoration green, red, yellow, light blue and black. Internally very good and free of inscriptions; copiously illustrated with six full page plates of line drawings and decorations to chapter headings, first letters and tail pieces; binding tight; no foxing of note; decorative end papers; 222pp + 8pp adverts. A most attractive copy.

Splits to the pastedown hinges; the BEP is partially detached. The binding is fragile and a little exposed between several pages throughout. All text and illustrations are clear. CM. Used.

Boards rubbed at edges, markedly at spine tips, generally worn with some mild shelf wear visible on verso. Hinges cracked, some loosening. Prize presentation plate on front paste down, dated 1902. Some paper scars on front free endpaper; rear free endpaper has flat creasing. Faint and occasional spotting on prelims only; hint of tanning in extreme page margins. Still an attractive volume. A collection of articles, stories and poetry with moral and sentimental themes for young readers.
