A wartime publication, during which conflict both authors served with the SOE - th…ough this guide offers itself more generally to 'those whose lot it is to use the one-hand gun in the course of duty'. It is a thoroughgoing treatise on the subject, by two men who had served with idistinction in the Shanghai Municipal Police between the wars - Fairbairn specialising in hand-to-hand combat and Sykes in firearms. Together they developed the FairbairnSykes fighting knife, manufactured by Wilkinson Sword for use by Commandos in the Second World War (and still used today). Sykes was born Eric Schwabe to parents of German heritage in Eccles; the illustrator of this work, an official war artist in both wars, was his younger brother, a graduate of the Slade. A superb copy of a scarce book.
