Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. First edition of this wonderful turn-of-the-20th-century Christmas book, with six bold chromolithographic plates depicting children at play, in original pictorial boards. Anthologies of children's stories (not always Christmas-related) for Christmas were popular from the 19th century onward. While they tend toward the didactic, they are also often well-written and entertaining even a century later. This is a particularly lovely example from 1906, with quite accomplished color illustrations--not always particularly common in these books--and numerous line drawings. Only a couple faint marginal smudges to interior, some wear to book extremities not affecting bright cover illustration. A collectible copy of a type of book often found quite worn.

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good-. Chromo-lithograph and monotone litho; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 102 pages; No date given; believed 1905. Ernest Nister publication # 1341. Co published with Dutton. Large 8vo in publisher's green cloth with bold 4 color pictorial design to cover board. Titles in gilt to cover and in black to spine. Illustrated with numerous lithographs, including 6 full page chromolithographs. Illustrated by a variety of artists; the chromo plates are all signed E Lance or EL for Evelyn lance. Many other images signed. Presumably published by Nister in 1903 as an "annual" with a very similar title, then reissued in 1905. A combined search for either example finds only 4 copies held institutionally as catalogued by Worldcat. Contents are complete and clean. Binding is shaken and the frontis is loose and laid in with some mild chipping along the leaf's edges.Halo toning throughout and the pages have the appearance of fragility, though there are no chips or edge tears other than those to the chromo plate at front. Boards bright and clean with just light shelf rubbing at edges. Scarce color plate childrens' title. VG-.
