Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - These messages were written from ideas that God gave me from a variety of settings. Some messages came from ideas I heard during church sermons, Christian broadcasting, crusades, reading books, events that have happened, my own personal experiences, the Bible, and a mission trip to Africa. Key words or phrases would be said or read about during these different settings and then God would inspire me to write about what was heard or read. Some ideas came from personal experiences and then confirmed by other messages that were being preached. I write down almost every message that I hear preached at Church, or at the Crusades. The final inspiration to write this book came from my circumstances at church. I had a lot of messages ready to preach, but was not having an opportunity to preach them. I was starting to get bitter and God inspired me to put these messages in a book and said the messages would reach a lot more people this way. I heard the call and did what God called me to do and now I am better not bitter. I have been a Christian since I was thirteen and a practicing Christian since I was twenty four. Duties in the Church have included: singing in the Choir, leading praise and worship, teaching Junior High and Adult Sunday School, Lay Leader Committee, Finance Committee, Superintendent of Adult Sunday School, Education Chair, Certified Lay Speaker, and Youth Counselor. God has called me to teach, preach, go on a mission trip to Africa, and now write this book. Please help get these messages out to the world. May God richly bless you! Sincerely, Eric England.

See his entry in the Oxford DNB. From the papers of music bookseller Leonard Hyman. 1p, 12mo. On creased and discoloured paper. Folded for postage. Signed 'Eric Blom'. He thanks Hyman for letting him know about 'the Burney volumes'. He is 'almost ashamed at having decided not to have them for the moment. They are really only "stock", as far as I am concerned, and as I don't particularly want to spend all that at moment, [sic] I think I will let them go.' Changing the subject, he reports that he 'got into touch with Miss Kingdon-Ward and found her a very interesting girl. I also met her mother, whom I like greatly. Miss K.-W. has done some excellent work on Mozart and the clarinette, and though much of what she has done needs re-writing, that is only a matter of practice. Fundamentally it is very sound.'.

See W. J. Langford's glowing obituary of Neville (described as 'the greatest of them all' from a pedagogical point of view) in the Mathematical Gazette, May 1964. 2pp., 12mo. In fair condition, lightly aged and worn. He begins by reassuring Harington that his books are 'safely here', but continues: 'I fear that every book I possess on numerical equations is on duty for the time being in the computing department of one of the RAF establishments.' He does not know of 'any book which gives an account of the processes actually used nowadays. The fundamental principle is always the same - a first approximation, followed by some iterative process by which any desired order of accuracy can be reached. Theoretically the ideal process for finding a first approximation is Graeffe's root-squaring process, but in practice each problem is apt to throw up a mass of equations for which some particular trick can be found.' He ends by comparing the process to 'elementary multiplication'. In a postscript he points Harington to a paper of his in the Mathematical Gazette, which has 'the gist of the matter in it'. From the Harington family papers, the recipient being Sir Richard Dundas Harington, 13th Baronet (1900-1981).
