First edition. 152pp., a 1 page list of other books in the Cathie, Sovra and Ian series, frontispiece and other black and white illustrations by Mary Dinsdale. Elinor Bruce Lyon (1921-2008) was an English children's author from a Scottish family background. Many of her novels are set on the Highland coast, and others in Wales. In this book the author returns to the coast of Scotland and to the characters of her most successful stories, Ian, Sovra and Cathie. In this story the friends try to save the house belonging to the Gunn family from a couple who have traveled from Chile to claim it as their own. The book is bound in the original paper covered boards with a colour illustration on the front board. This is an ex-library copy and has the ususal library indications. The case of the book has shelf wear with some soiling and it appears that the boards may have had a laminate covering that has been removed with a few traces remaining on the edges. The corners and spine ends are lightly bumped and the spine is slightly cocked. There is a 1/2" x 1 3/4" patch of damage to the front board where the top layer of the paper has been lifted. The contents are tight and clean apart from a few small stains and slightly more noticeable stains on pages 11 and 12. A few of the pages have creases across the top corner. The principal library indications are remains of a card pocket and top edge of a label on the front free endpaper, a small 'withdrawn' stamp and a reference number on the title page, a faint blind stamp on the top corner of pages 17 to 22 and the free endpapers, and a label on the rear free endpaper.

The book is bound in the original mottled blue and white boards with red titling on the spine. The case of the book is in good to very good condition with rubbing to the spine ends. The contents are tight and clean with slight age-browning to the pages and a name and address has been written on the front fixed endpaper. The unclipped dustwrapper has some shelf wear with light soiling and the corners are rubbed. The spine ends are bumped and nicked and the spine ends and corners have been reinforced on the reverse with strips of tape. The wrapper is in an easily removed clear plastic protective cover.
