Railway in November, 1958, to protest rules changes regarding seniority and the elimination of trades. The E.J. & E. was the sole source of transport fo…r U.S. Steel's South Works and Gary plants, which gave the union substantial leverage. According to contemporary accounts, the strike was settled quickly.
