He spent nearly twenty years at St. Thomas Hospital in London, where he was mentor to Charles Howard Usher (18651942). At St. Thomas, he was an ophthalmic surgeon and lecturer. The Nettleship Medal of the Ophthalmological Society was created in his honor. - Bindung at the edges minimally rubbed, tiny tear to head of spine, pages partly somewhat brown spotted, else a fine copy. / Edward Nettleship (1845-1913) war ein englischer Ophtalmologe. Er arbeitete Von 1878 bis 1896 als Augenchirurg und Dozent am St Thomas' Hospital in London und führte bis 1902 eine Privatpraxis. Von 1895 bis 1897 war Nettleship erster Vorsitzender der britischen Gesellschaft für Augenheilkunde und 1896 Vorsitzender der augenärztlichen Sektion der Britischen Ärztegemeinschaft. Er veröffentlichte zahlreiche wissenschaftliche Artikel auf dem Gebiet der Augenheilkunde und verfasste das erfolgreiche Lehrbuch für Augenheilkunde The student`s Guide to Diseases of the Eye, das 1879 herauskam und mehrfach neu aufgelegt wurde. - Einbandkanten minimal berieben, oberes Kapital mit winz. Nettleship-Syndrom wurde nach ihm benannt. Seit seiner Pensionierung als Arzt lebte er in seinem Landhaus mit wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten befaßt. 1912 wurde er Fellow der Royal Society. Die "Ophthalmological Society" vergibt ihm zu Ehren eine Nettleship-Medaille.
