He portrayed prominent political and civic figures, and his works became important sources for later engraved portraits. Condition: good, given age. Light foxing, creasing, and soiling. Portrait of Léon Cogniet (1794-1880), a French history and portrait painter, as well as teacher of painting and design with many notable students. Etching and roulette, on chine-collé on wove paper, sheet size 281 x 379 mm., image size 134 x 170 mm., etching by Edouard Taurel (1824-1892) after Léon Cogniet, dated 1818. In good condition, some scattered foxing and small creases in the margins.
