Tan cloth stamped with green borders, with red letters on the front cover and the spine and with a color pictorial onlay to the front cover. Endpapers are black and white maps. Just touches of wear to the extremities with nothing rubbed through, cloth clean and bright, pictorial onlay in fine condition, all drawings and photos in fine condition, else fine with no internal markings. Dust jacket slightly soiled and stained but not price clipped. Edith Lea Elias (1879-1952) was the daughter of ship's chandler John Lumsden Elias and his wife, Mary Ann Lea. She was educated at the School for Girls, Grove Street, Liverpool, and at University College, Liverpool, Victoria University (subsequently Liverpool University), where she earned her BA in 1899, and her MA in 1902. She married boys' school story author Frank Elias, and settled with him at Felixstowe, moving to Merseyside after his death, in 1949. Elias herself died in 1952, bequeathing her collection of books on polar exploration to the Scott Polar Institute in Cambridge.
