Paperback. Zustand: Fine. Paperback. "William Morris was the most prominent Victorian artist to embrace the new socialist movement of the 1880s, and his socialist diary one of the only two extended diaries he kept. The diary provides us with a highly accessible introduction to his political activities, and documents the energy and enthusiasm of his work for 'the social revolution', a commitment which strongly influenced the origins of British socialism. Florence Boos's carefully edited text is supplemented by many running notes and separate biographical sketches of fellow-workers in the early socialist movement whom Morris mentioned in the diary" (back cover). Fine in red paper wrappers with black title to spine and front cover. Slight wear to corners of wrappers and slight yellowing to interior pages. Clean and bright. 75 pages. MOR/080515.

Hardcover. First edition. 63pp. Small square quarto [26.5 cm] Black cloth spine with matte bronze paper over raised boards. Very good. There is a large discolored area on the front cover. Internally the book is very clean. "For some twenty years, in what is clearly one of the most significant bodies of work to emerge from the studio glass movement, he [William Morris] has been thinking, considering, pondering, and perhaps even brooding on the question of the relationship between humankind and nature, and on the way that art and artists have always tried to touch upon that special and often spiritual bond." - James Yood.

Hardback in dustwrapper. 23 × 15.5cm, lxvii + 406pp. William Morris's letters, here collected for the first time form a valuable record of the growth and development of mind and personality of the 'poetic upholsterer' as he was called by his contemporaries. Among the many letters included, they show him writing to his mother announcing his decision to become an architect instead of taking Holy Order, to the Athenaeum and The Times on behalf of 'Anti-Scrape' - his Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, and to Mrs Burne-Jones on his view of the capitalist economy. Condition: The book is in very good condition, the dustwrapper is tanned to the spine with a small closed tear to the front joint and some minor loss to the top edge but it is now within a protective sleeve.
