Edited by the eminent biblical scholar Samuel Rolles Driver (1846-1914), Regius Professor of Hebrew at the University of Oxford and one of the most influential Old Testament scholars of his generation, this work represents a significant contribution to the development of modern biblical scholarship. The Century Bible series sought to make contemporary biblical scholarship accessible to clergy, students and lay readers alike, combining rigorous academic research with practical usefulness. Driver's treatment of Deuteronomy and Joshua reflects the critical and historical scholarship that transformed biblical studies during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
