Good to very good in fair to good dustjacket. Music and lyrics with occasional black and white illustrations. Black hardcover with red cloth spine, with dustjacket. The book has some edge rubbing, maily the lower edge, good hinges, sound text block, lightly age-toned but clean pages, no names or other markings. The mylar protected dustjacket is not priceclipped [5.00] and has an old tape repair along the front joint, other quite minor wear, almost no paper loss. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.

Printed glossy boards (the first edition had printed matte papercovered boards). Some modest rubbing on the boards, very good or better in rubbed, very good dust jacket. A collection of hymns and songs by and about African-Americans, with commentary and contributions from Alain Locke, Eubie Blake, Langston Hughes, Edwin C. Hill, George L. Bullock and many others. This copy boldly Inscribed by W.C. Handy in his characteristic scrawl dated in 1954, somewhat obscuring the recipient. Laid in is a business card for Billy Elmore's Melody Boys from New York City, and it is conceivable that Elmore is the recipient.
