Over the past decade, Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean at large have become critically linked to the future of the Indo-Pacific. They have emerged as centres of global power play with increased strategic significance. The objective of this book is to analyse the rapidly changing dynamics in this vital region, with a particular focus on regional multilateral and minilateral set-ups, including QUAD (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue), Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), AUKUS (Australia-UK-US), and others. Positioning India at the centre, this book examines the delicate strategic balance of power in the Indian Ocean region, especially looking at air power, capacity building, and air-sea battle operations. It seeks to understand how like-minded Indo-Pacific countries can work together to enhance collaboration in varied domains ranging from nuclear energy to air power and cyber security to economic and supply chain cooperation. Through such collaborations, India and its like-minded partners can work together to reduce the predominance of any single nation, and ensure that they can actively shape a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific. In this sense, the legacy multilateral institutions and the new minilaterals emerging within and across the region are aimed at securing a peaceful and stable Indo-Pacific. The book comprehensively covers geostrategic issues in the Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal, with focus on air power being the fulcrum of strategic balance in the region. With a cross-section of contributions from experienced and emerging scholars, this book is a must-read for practitioners and research analysts in the aforementioned domains.

The last decade of the nineteenth century witnessed, for the first time, the demand for a federal polity premised on the principle of linguistic provinces. The regional Chambers of Commerce in the Telugu, Bengal and Tamil linguistic regions were the first to put forth such a demand before the Congress and the colonial state. The Indian National Congress agreed to it in 1920 and reorganized provincial Congress organizations, which had been earlier based on politico-administrative boundaries of the British Indian provinces on linguistic lines under a new party constitution under Gandhi's influence. However, once it came to power at the Centre in 1947 the national Congress leadership changed its stand. In 1953, under the pressure of a mass upsurge, the Nehru government was compelled to set up a State Reorganization Commission to consider the question of the creation of linguistic states. In the past 55 years, several works have been published on the theme of 'state politics', but most writers have concentrated on electoral politics. This book, however, discusses different aspects of politics in the 27 states and 2 Union Territories with legislative assemblies (with some minor omissions which are regretted). For example, it analyses the different social structures, levels of economic development, landholding patterns, party systems, voting behaviour, political culture and governance and politics of each state. It discusses their internal dynamics which are influenced by the size of the population, demography, territo.
The Volumes of the Project of History of Indian Science Philosophy and Culture PHISPC aim at discovering the main aspects of Indias heritage and present them in an interrelated way These volumes in spite of their unitary look recognize the difference between the areas of material civilization and those of ideational culture The Project is not being executed by a single group of thinkers and writers who are methodologically uniform or ideologically identical in their commitments In fact contributions are made by different scholars with different ideological persuasions and methodological approaches The Project is marked by what may be called methodological pluralism In spite of its primarily historical character this Project both in its conceptualization and execution has been shaped by many scholars drawn from different disciplines It is for the first time that an endeavour of such a unique and comprehensive character has been undertaken to study critically a major world civilization This Volume comprises twenty five papers on the traditional religious beliefs and ritualistic practices of various tribes of India more particularly the tribes of North-Eastern India Although tribal population constitutes eight percent of the total population of India many Indians are ignorant of the tribal socio-cultural life and belief systems Most of the tribes are still living in isolation from the Indian mainstream without much improvement in their socio-economic condition even after six decades of India becoming an independent republic Moreover the tribals are facing serious problems challenging their survival and cultural identity due to exploitation by the financially and politically privileged among the non-tribals Their Indigenous religious faiths and practices have also been threatened by interference from some other communities especially by the activities of the preachers and missionaries of other religions The learned papers written by the experts in their own fields of specialization have thrown great light on the religion of various tribes and also addressed some of the pertinent problems that the tribal people have confronted 467 pp.

Atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO) concentration crossed 400 ppm in 2015 from 279 ppm of preindustrial period. Similarly compared to preindustrial era, the methane (CH) concentration increased from 722 ppb to 1800 ppb and nitrous oxide (N.O) concentration from270 ppb to 323 ppb in 2011. Increasing GHGs concentration in the atmosphere has created radiative imbalance resulting in more energy from the sun entering than exiting the top of the earth's atmosphere. All the above, individually and collectively, adversely influence the total agriculture productivity. Increased awareness during 1990s about adverse effect of deforestation and other land-use changes on CO, stock coupled with more emphasis on afforestation checked rise in atmospheric carbon-di-oxide in the recent years.
