[17 articles are in Hindi] India is the largest democratic country in the world, where women folk constitute almost half population. Women have been deprived of various kinds of opportunities by our traditional society for the past several centuries. Discrimination against women is commonly observed in reaping the benefits of socioeconomic development, participation in community activity, various national development programs aimed at their upliftment and empowerment. The status of women in Uttarakhand is particularly low although women have played a very important role in the economy of the state for generations. Uttarakhand is primarily a money order economy where men migrate in research of work and the task of not only looking after the family and trudging long distances for water but are also left to farm the land. Women in Uttarakhand have pioneered several mass movements across the state and have also played a pivotal role in the formation of the state. They have visual a state where they can effectively guide the development of the region in a way that benefits all and is sustainable. Women in Uttarakhand are slowly but surely beginning to play a major role in governance. This book focuses on the Empowerment of Rural Women : Status, Challenges and Solutions. It includes 37 articles and research papers, which discuss all the dimensions of women empowerment. This book will be fruitful to policy makers, administrators and interested research scholars.
