Revised edition. xxxx, 314pp. Richard Baxter (1615-1691) was an English Puritan church leader, poet, hymnodist, and theologian. His work, first published in 1696, is more than autobiography. Ostensibly the memoirs of a clergyman, it records the spiritual progress of a man intimately involved in the political events of his time. The book is bound in the original red boards with gold titling on the spine and a gold illustration on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with light bumping to the spine ends and top corners. The contents are tight and clean with no inscription. The clipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with rubbing along the top edge and wear to the corner tips and spine ends. There are some small tears on the top edge and a larger tear of about 1/2" on the top front spine edge.

Vol I, liv, 479pp. Vol II, xx, 493pp. "Andrew Marvell (1621 - 78) is best known today as the author of a handful of exquisite lyrics and provocative political poems. In his own time, however, Marvell was famous for his brilliant prose interventions in the major issues of the Restoration, religious toleration, and what he called arbitrary as distinct from parliamentary government. This is the first modern edition of all Marvell's prose pamphlets, complete with introductions and annotation explaining the historical context. Four major scholars of the Restoration era have collaborated to produce this truly Anglo-American edition." There is slight sunning to the jacket spines of both volumes. Jackets unclipped. Both volumes are otherwise in excellent condition. All contents are tight and clean. There are no inscriptions. PLEASE NOTE: Heavy set so extra will be needed for shipping to non-UK customers.
