Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fine. 1st Edition. All thre volumes are in fine condition and all the dust jackets are in protective sleeves. A beautiful set. Third Series, vols. 12, 20,21. The volumes cover his experiences aboard the whaling ships Resolution and Esk, sailing from Whitby and Hull to the Greenland Sea and around Spitsbergen. Scoresby describes the brutal and dangerous work of hunting bowhead whales, the techniques used to process them, and the challenges of navigating ice-choked waters. He records encounters with polar bears, icebergs, and other ships, and provides detailed observations of weather, sea ice, and Arctic wildlife. What makes these journals especially valuable is Scoresby's scientific curiosity. He took careful meteorological and oceanographic measurements, noted magnetic variations, and made early contributions to the study of Arctic geography and climate.…
