In den WarenkorbContemporary Marbled Boards. Zustand: Very Good. First Edition Thus. 1845 and 1843. [x], 58pp., 7pp.; 10pp, [iii], 19pp. This book contains two publications issued by Chappel Music for the Members of the Musical Antiquarian Society. The first of the two, issued in 1845, is Madrigals for Four Voices composed by John Bennet, score…d from the original part books printed A.D. 1599 and edited by Edward J. Hopkins. The second, issued in 1843, is Fantasies in Three Parts Composed for Viols by Orlando Gibbons, scored from the copy printed in the Reign of James 1st and compared with the original M.S. by Edward F. Rimbault. Each piece of music is accpmpanied by details of the Council of the Musical Antiquarian Society; an introduction; and facsimiles of original title pages, etc. After the piece by Bennet is a Report of the Fourth A.G.M. of the Society, list of members, etc. The book is bound in contemporary marbled paper covered boards with a blue cloth spine and gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with expected shelf wear and a little damage and loss to the marbled paper around the corner tips. The spine ends are bumped with some damage and loss to the cloth. There is a split of about 1 1/2" to the cloth on the bottom of the front spine edge, the top 2" of the front spine edge and top 3/4" of the rear spine edge. The free endpapers are browned and there is foxing to the score by Bennet. This copy has come from the library of Arthur Henry Fox Strangways (1859-1948) the English musicologist, translator, editor and music critic, and his bookplate has been pasted onto the front fixed endpaper. PLEASE NOTE: This is a large and fairly heavy book and so a little extra may be needed for delivery outside the U.K.
