Edges of boards heavily rubbed with loss of paper along the edges and margins. Corners of boards heavily worn, rubbed, and rounded. T…he frontispiece illustration has a 4" tear with an adhesive sellotape repair on the reverse side. Also a 1 3/4" tear to the lower inner corner of the frontispiece, again with an old sellotape repair on the reverse side. The sellotape repairs to the frontispiece have caused adhesive tape staining to the paper of the frontispiece, and also to the neighbouring region of the front free endpaper. An early owner's inscription on the front endpaper - "To Patti with Love from Auntie May", beneath which is another recent inscription - "(a family friend) about 1924". No other inscriptions or marginalia. Gutters broken at hinges. ; Illustrated papered boards with red cloth spine. Full colour illustrations by Louis Wain on both the front and rear boards. Also with a full colour frontispiece, and many duotone (i.e. black with one other colour) and b&w illustrations, all by Louis Wain.
