India is the second largest producer of Fruits after China, with a production of 277352 thousand MT of fruits from an area of 24189 thousand hectare area. Various fruits like mango, banana, citrus, guava, grape, pineapple, apple peach, pear, almond, walnut, apricot, papaya, sapota, annona, phalsa, jackfruit, ber, pomegranate are grown in various states of India having different agro climatic condition. Maharastra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat are major fruit growing states. Infestation of insect pest is major limiting factor in successful cultivation of fruit crops. Tropical as well as temperate fruit crops provide a relatively long term and stable environment, offering suitable habitats for both pests and natural enemies. This environment also provides excellent opportunities to adopt integrated pest management programmes with an objective to render benefits to the farmers as well as society. In order to apply IPM concepts in fruit crops, it is inevitable to understand the biology and ecology of insect pest of respective fruit crops. The book encompasses the information on biology, nature of damage and management strategies of major insect pests of fruit crops which will be helpful in application of IPM strategies. Apart from this also covers the information on regular and emerging pests of major fruit crops, bio-control agents of major insect pests and role of pollinators in enhancing the productivity of fruits.
