The Committee made various recommendations for improving the supply and quality of housing for the working classes, including a proposal that in London rents should be set centrally. A particular concerns was the clearance of housing for major infrastructure and civil engineering projects, without replacement homes being provided.

Brooks, Day&Son London 1895 [Das dekorative Blatt an den Rändern leicht angestaubt.] Die Wochenzeitschrift "Vanity Fair" legte in den Jahren 1869 bis zu ihrer Einstellung 1914 jeder Ausgabe eine Farblithographie mit dem Porträt der sogenannten "Person der Woche" bei. Neben anderen namhaften Künstlern seien vor allem Sir Leslie Ward (London 1851 - 1922) und Carlo Pellegrini (Capua 1839 - London 1889) genannt, die unter dem Pseudonym "Spy"(Ward) und "Ape"(Pellegrini) Persönlichkeiten des öffentlichen Lebens karikierten.
