Frederick R Chichester, who wrote predominantly under a pseudonym, was a prolific writer of novels in the nineteenth century. Externally, sound with some rubbing, particularly to the head of the spines. Lacking spine label to volume II. Rear hinge strained to volume III. Front hinge strained after title page to volume II with page 3/4 detached but present. Front hinge strained after endpaper to volume I. Personal bookplate of Francis Ravenscroft to front pastedown of all volume with library number label from personal library. Internally, generally firmly bound although strained in places, particularly to volume II. Pages bright with light spotting throughout. Good. None (illustrator). book.

Cautley Newby, 1856, volumi 2, in-8, legatura originale in piena tela, con ricche impressioni a secco sui piatti (al centro monogramma dell'editore), titolo e fregi in oro ai dorsi, pp. X, 312 - V, [1], 294. I…had long heard its inhabitans spoken with contempt; but when I learnt fully to understand the tyranny of Church and State which has crushed them for centuries [.] I commiserated, but could not despise a people who have frequently struggled for freedom [.]".
