He was celebrated for introducing plants from New Holland to European gardens. He recorded his travels in New Holland in a 2000 page manuscript, now edited and translated by Dymphna Clark. Published by Melbourne University Press at the Miegunyah Press in Association with the State Library of New South Wales. Number 17 in the Miegunyah Press series.
