In a signed 'J. Leighton, Brewer' haff crushed morocco binding. A limited print run, with 'only Cxx., copies printed for private Circulation'. Collated, complete with twelve plates, one of which is coloured and many of which are folding. With an additional folding plate facing page 88. In a half crushed morocco binding. Externally, slightly rubbed to extremities, raised bands, and head and tail of spine. Bookbinder stamp to front pastedown. Prior owner's bookplate tipped to front pastedown. Internally firmly bound. Pages slightly age toned to edges but very bright and clean, with the odd spot. Scattered spots to first and last few pages. Very Good Indeed. book.

Bound in full crushed morocco with cloth boards. Very scarce. A topographical survey or history of Deptford, in the ancient region known as Hundred of Blackheath in Kent. First recorded in 1166, Blackheath contained twelve parishes, one of which was Deptford; the name "Blackheath" now refers to a district of South East London, with the original parishes now lying largely within the borough of Greenwich. Written by British antiquary and historian, Alfred John Dunkin, a local to Kent, growing up in Bromley. Illustrated with ten plates, a frontispiece and three folding maps. No collation available, although a copy held by the Bishopsgate Institute states 21 plates and 3 folding plates.With a note from the publisher mentioning illustrations including a portrait of John Dunkin, a picture of the old Trinity Houses and John Evelyn's Map of Deptford have been added to enhance the general interest expressed in the work. Bound in full crushed morocco with cloth boards. Externally, very smart, with light rubbing to the extremities and an area of rubbing to the front board. Endpapers renewed. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed. book.

Alfred John Dunkin (18121879), printer and antiquary. "In 1831 he entered his father's printing and stationery business at Bromley, Kent, and in 1837 moved with him to Dartford, where he continued as a printer and wholesale stationer until his death. He belonged to numerous archaeological societies, and was among the first members of the British Archaeological Association, to which, in its early days, he gave some assistance as a printer."(ODNB). Most of Dunkin's published works were issued in very limited numbers. Provenance: Armorial bookplate of Bibliotheque de M. de Barante to front paste-downs, with the library press-mark label.
