Por primera vez este libro ofrece un panorama exhaustivo de una amplia parte de la obra «poética» gongorina -se trata de casi seis mil versos- que durante largo tiempo quedó olvidada por la crítica, y que en cambio sorprende, no sólo por sus soluciones y significados polifacéticos, sino también por su coherencia estructural y estilística (siendo la elección de metáforas, de referencias mitológicas o bíblicas, etc. siempre coherente con respecto a la acción desarrollada en las tablas). Estilo culto y alternancia de pausas descriptivas y de dinamismo escénico son, pues, el fondo de estas comedias que, aunque númericamente reducidas, se afirman por su intencionada finalidad ejemplar, siendo evidente su intento de proponer al espectador (y, añadiremos, al moderno lector) un arte nuevo de hacer comedias del todo opuesto al de Lope de Vega: no popular, sino clásico y sublime. LAURA DOLFI es catedrática de Literatura Española en la Universidad de Parma (Italia). Sus investigaciones histórico-filológicas y críticas se centran sobre todo en el estudio del teatro del siglo XVII, y en poesía y epistolarios del XX. Ha publicado la edición del Teatro completo de Góngora (Madrid, Cátedra, 1993). Ha organizado congresos internacionales sobre culteranismo y teatro, Tirso de Molina, y García Lorca. Entre sus libros más recientes: Tirso e don Giovanni. Scambi di ruoli tra dame e cavalieri (Roma, Bulzoni, 2008), Don Juan llega a Italia. De Tirso a Cicognini (Madrid, Ediciones Clásicas-Ed. del Orto, 2009), y además: Il caso Federico García Lorca. Dalla Spagna all'Italia (Roma, Bulzoni, 2006) y la edición comentada J. Guillén O. En Italia dirige colecciones y revistas de literatura; pertenece al Consejo Asesor dell'Instituto de Estudios Tirsianos (Madrid-Pamplona) y del Anuario de Estudios Filológicos de la Universidad de Extremadura. De 1992 a 1998 fue presidenta, y vicepresidenta, de la Asociación de Hispanistas Italianos (A.ISP.I).
