Hardcover. Zustand: Good. 1st Edition. Early full mottled calf. 18mo. 4 by 7 inches. (20), 328pp. First edition. A work on intestinal parasites by the Dutch physician Wouter Van Doeveren (1730-1783). He had a prosperous career first as a physician in Leyden and then as a professor of surgery and obstetrics at the Universities of Groningen and Leyden. A good copy in a handsome early binding with some scuffing to the sides of the spine and some chipping to the upper spine and spine label. The text is very good with some light soiling and wear. There is a small stamped owner's name at the top of the half-title page and an early bookplate at front.

Very good. [TITLE in English: Physico-medical observations on the worms that form in the intestines; with particular reference to taenia, i.e. tapeworms, and the various ways of treating this disease.] On intestinal worms, being the topic of his 1753 dissertation on tapeworms, or helminthiasis, in humans. Charles Bonnet wrote about tapeworms in 1743. Helminthiasis is often the result of poor sanitation as worm eggs contaminate the soil and are thus transferred to humans and other animals. FIRST EDITION of van Doeveren?s rectorial address as professor of medicine, surgery and obstetrics at the University of Groningen. Doeveren (1730?1783), a member of a prominent Dutch medical family, took his medical degree at Leyden and later studied surgery and obstetrics in Paris.
