Uno de ellos, fundamental y no suficientemente estudiado hasta ahora, es la preponderancia del poema celebrato…rio. Debido al destiempo propio de su desarrollo, las literaturas nacionales de las repúblicas americanas no pudieron apoyar su fundación sobre epopeyas o poemas heroicos. Ese vigor se transmutó en una tesitura hímnica, precisamente cuando en Europa la poesía, después del romanticismo, iba a tomar la deriva opuesta, hacia lo elegíaco. A partir de una documentada fundamentación de este «canto de lo presente», que va de Whitman a Marianne Moore y Derek Walcott, y de Chocano y Darío a Neruda y Zurita, Dobry se detiene en la obra de Juan L. Ortiz, el gran poeta del litoral fluvial rioplatense. Otro rasgo decisivo de la posición americana se concreta en la simultaneidad de pasado y presente que, con diversas modulaciones, está en T. S. Eliot, Lezama Lima, Borges y Haroldo de Campos. Dobry estudia la configuración de estas construcciones antihistoricistas, en cuyo sustrato hace resonar las ideas de Benedetto Croce. El libro aborda, además, algunos fenómenos significativos de la creación poética en América Latina desde la segunda mitad del siglo xx, como el homenaje a Darío de Juan José Saer, el primero de los «antipoemas» de Nicanor Parra, la «situación irregular» de Enrique Lihn, los escritos últimos de Pizarnik o la «rechota democracia» de Alejandro Rubio, entre otros. Mención aparte merece la introducción teórica, en la que Dobry muestra el triple modo en que se estudia la poética: como función del lenguaje; como modelo de radical actitud filosófica ante lo humano; finalmente, como género dentro de la tradición literaria. Así lo señala, en el prólogo, el crítico, editor y especialista en estudios de poesía latinoamericana Gustavo Guerrero: «La introducción nos brinda un amplio y detallado panorama de la evolución de los estudios literarios [. . . ] entre el momento del ya lejano giro lingüístico y el regreso de la especulación filosófica con Derrida y la deconstrucción.
