The author (1799-1871) was a famed French military surgeon, and professor at the School of Medicine in Strassburg, who was sent to Berlin in 1831. Amer. Imprints 14644. Cordasco 30-0787. A very good copy, new endpapers, rebound, boards lightly rubbed, scattered foxing, map with small tears at folds and one paper tape repair. Modern half calf over marbled boards.

Boards tight end papers not split a couple names in front. 2nd edition with 200 pages and 52 litho plates some folding. All plates are present but about half are loose. Presume they were removed at some point. Contents have lighter foxing than normally found. The last 6 pages have a small water spot on edge. A scarce volume.

Boards show very light wear to covers and edges. Previous owner note in pencil on front free end page "Chas. R. Whiteford, Baltimore Co. Almshouse, Texas, Balto. Co., Md, 1883."
