A tight copy, in fair condition, on aged paper, with front endpapers sprung, and in a worn binding. Vignette woodcut on title-page, showing man working beside track as locomotive… goes past. In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Good. Presumed First Edition, First printing. 143, [17[ pages. Profusely illustrated. Diagrams. Foreword by L. C. Goad. Cover has some wear and soiling. A division of the General Motors Corporation, formed in January 1942 for aircraft production in five of the Corporation's U.S. eastern seaboard factories. It… built Grumman Wildcats under designation FM-1 (first flew September 1, 1942), and Avengers as TBM-1. Eastern's vast war production program was spread throughout five plants (located in Linden, Trenton, and Bloomfield, New Jersey, Tarrytown, New York and Baltimore, Maryland), each situation many miles away from the others. It was hoped that in these pages each employee would gain insight into his or her contribution to the over-all efforts, and will in turn continue to give the same whole-hearted cooperation and loyalty to the job in the future. The war production was of particular importance to the United States Navy. Eastern Aircraft Division: built 1,060 FM-1 and 4,777 FM-2 Grumman Fighters, & 7,546 TBM Torpedo Bombers. General Motors at the start of the second world war dwarfed all of the other auto makers and by itself was close to being or was the same size as the rest of them put together. In December of 1941 when war was declared GM had five car divisions; Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick and Cadillac. It also had its body division in Fisher Body and its truck and bus division in GMC. Then there were where the over 20 component divisions which made everything from aircraft propellers to diesel engines. GM produced $12,321,789,412 in war materials during WWII out of the total of $29 billion produced by the entire auto industry or $41%. Of the 109 General Motors plants operating in 46 communities and 13 states during the war, 66 of them or 60% were awarded the Army-Navy "E" Award or the Navy "E" Award during WWII. The 66 GM plants then added 154 stars as the war progressed with one having six stars, and many of them with four.
