In den WarenkorbExquisite stipple engraving with period hand color of the crustaceans Maia Austral, and Etise Utile, discovered on Dumont D'Urville's "Voyage au Pole Sud et Dans l'Oceanie." The French voyages in this period benefited from the French expansive world view, that saw artists & scientists accompanying the sailors on French voyages o…f exploration, recording scientific detail and assembling natural history collections. Jules Dumont D'Urville visited Australia twice, 1826-29 & 1837-40. His account of the second voyage was published in 1842 (text volumes); 1846 (atlas) and 1853 (natural history plates). Image 28 x 41 cm with large margins. With the blind-stamp "GIDE Editeur Paris" below the plate mark. Plate 2 from the "Crustacees" section. Clean copies, with an old crease the length of the print (not really detracting from the image). Slt fox spotting on lower left, mostly in the margins.

In den WarenkorbAn exquisite stipple engraving with period hand color of the sulfur crested cockatoo, from Dumont D'Urville's "Voyage au Pole Sud et Dans l'Oceanie." The French voyages in this period benefited from the French expansive world view, that saw artists & scientists accompanying the sailors on French voyages of exploration, recording… scientific detail and assembling natural history collections. Jules Dumont D'Urville visited Australia twice, 1826-29 & 1837-40. His account of the second voyage was published in 1842 (text volumes); 1846 (atlas) and 1853 (natural history plates). During Dumont D'Urville's second voyage, they visited the North Coast of Australia (the attempted settlement at Port Essington & Torres Strait) and Tasmania. Image 40 x 27.5 cm with large margins. Plate 26 from the "Oiseaux" section. Exceptionally clean copy, with a hint of shading from an old mat outside the platemark. A tiny abrasion in the margin of the left side. Overall, in very good condition. Dumont D'Urville's account is rare, as are the separate plates from it.
