The dust jacket is in a plastic sleeve. Some content appeared in Analog Science Fiction and Fact and Alien Starts IV: Free Lancers. Lois McMaster Bujold (born November 2, 1949) is an American speculative fiction writer. She has won the Hugo Award for best novel four times. Her novella The Mountains of Mourning won both the Hugo Award and Nebula Award. The Curse of Chalion won the Mythopoeic Award and was nominated for the 2002 World Fantasy Award for best novel, and both her fourth Hugo Award and second Nebula Award were for Paladin of Souls. In 2011 she was awarded the Skylark Award. She has won two Hugo Awards for Best Series, in 2017 for the Vorkosigan Saga and in 2018 for the World of the Five Gods. The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association named her its 36th SFWA Grand Master in 2019. The bulk of Bujold's works comprises three series: the Vorkosigan Saga, the World of the Five Gods, and the Sharing Knife series. Bujold is best known for her Vorkosigan Saga, a series of novels featuring Miles Vorkosigan, a physically impaired interstellar spy and mercenary admiral from the planet Barrayar, set approximately 1000 years in the future. The author has stated that the series structure is modeled after the Horatio Hornblower books, documenting the life of a single person. In themes and echoes, they also reflect Dorothy L. Sayers' mystery character Lord Peter Wimsey. Bujold has also said that part of the challenge of writing a series is that many readers will encounter the stories in "utterly random order". Borders of Infinity is NESFA's edition of a 1989 collection of three of the five currently extant novellas, makes a good Miles Vorkosigan early-adventure sampler platter. The novellas "The Mountains of Mourning", "Labyrinth", and "The Borders of Infinity" were reprinted with an untitled framing story in which Miles reports to Simon Illyan, head of Barrayaran Imperial Security ("ImpSec"). The framing story emphasizes an auditboth financial and politicalof ImpSec, questioning Miles' activities and expenditures during the previous adventures. This volume is short-novel length; the three-novella anthology with its framing story was reprinted in the book sales club omnibus Vorkosigan's Game (1990). The Mountains of Mourning is a science fiction novella. It is part of her Vorkosigan Saga, chronologically taking place between the novels The Warrior's Apprentice and The Vor Game. It won the 1990 Hugo Award for Best Novella and the Nebula Award for Best Novella of 1989. The novella debuted in 1989 in Analog Science Fiction and Fact. It was later collected in the omnibus editions Vorkosigan's Game; Young Miles; and Borders of Infinity. Miles has just graduated from the Imperial Academy, and is at home at Vorkosigan Surleau with his parents. A woman from an isolated rural village demands justice for the murder of her baby, who was born with a cleft lip and palate, but was otherwise healthy. Miles' father sends him to investigate as his Voice (representative with full powers) to gain experience. Miles solves the mystery and exercises justice and mercy in appropriate measures. Labyrinth is a Miles Vorkosigan Story. Twenty-three year old Lieutenant Miles Vorkosigan challenges the criminal underground on the planet Jackson's Whole to rescue a research scientist. For the novel, Ms. Bujold added a short "framing story" that tied the three novellas together by setting up each as a flashback that Miles experiences while recovering from bone-replacement surgery. "The Borders of Infinity" is a novella in the Vorkosigan Saga. It was first published in 1987 by Baen Books as part of an anthology of novellas titled Free Lancers (from the collection Alien Stars; number 4) and is available as part of the Miles Errant collection. "The Borders of Infinity" came in seventh place for a Locus Award for Best Novella in 1988. When the Cetagandan Empire invaded Marilac, Barrayar saw an opportunity t.

That tradition is vividly portrayed in Gardens of Georgia, commissioned by the Garden Club of Georgia, Inc., to commemorate its sixtieth anniversary and to celebrate the heritage and beauty of Georgia's gardens. As noted by Georgia founder James Oglethorpe in 1732, Georgia has a happy climate. From the broad-shouldered mountains of the Blue Ridge, through the red clay of the rolling piedmont, across the sprawling piney coastal plain, and on to the subtropical islands on the Atlantic, Georgia is blessed with four regions of gardening opportunities, distinctly defined by differences in elevation, climate, soil, and natural vegetation.Writer William Mitchell and photographer Richard Moore have portrayed the wonders of gardens historic and contemporary, public and private, and urban, suburban, and rural from each of these regions. Whether illustrating overall gardenscapes or capturing intimate vignettes and individual blossoms, Richard Moore's photographs have a depth of color and clarity of detail that immerse the reader into a world of delightful splendor. The text by Willaim Mitchell not only describes the settings as they are today, but also spins a rich background of history in the context of the botanical Eden observed by early explorers. The richest legacy of each generation is to preserve and protect an always vulnerable natural environment and help nature bring forth its green and glowing cycles of rebirth. Gardens of Georgia celebrates that legacy, sharing the ongoing dream of paradise--a new Eden--whether it is in a grand formal garden from an earlier era or a small plot of perennials in a Georgia yard. ; FINE/FINE. Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Despite surging interest in early modern pamphlets, political historians of the Dutch Republic, arguably the frontrunner in pamphleteering, have yet to explore their nature and relevance in depth. Rather than treating pamphlets as reflecting public opinion, or dismissing them as political froth, this volume aims to understand pamphlets as political actors in their own right. The articles focus on the function of a pamphlet, the pamphlet as a political actor, and the relationship between pamphlets and public opinion. Articles deal with these questions systematically while chronologically analysing the crucial stages in the history of the Dutch Republic. The result is a fascinating window on Dutch political culture which is relevant for anyone interested in early modern society.Contributors include: Guido de Bruin, Femke Deen, Martin van Gelderen, Craig Harline, Roeland Harms, David Onnekink, Michel Reinders, Koen Stapelbroek, Monica Stensland and Jill Stern.
