First edition hard back binding in publisher's original brick red cloth covers, gilt title and author lettering to the spine and to the front cover, top edge gilt, fore and lower page edges untrimmed. Thick 4to 11½'' x 9¼''. Contains [xiv] 350 printed pages of text with the famous portrait frontispiece by François Pascal Simon,…Baron Gérard, 1802, and a further 23 plates, after contemporary artists of Mme Récamier and her associates. Hand written number 69 of a limited edition of 600 copies, of which 350 were printed in England and SIGNED by the author 'H. Noel Williams'. Spine edges cracked and repaired, cloth missing across the top of the spine. Heavy volume. Member of the P.B.F.A. BIO (Résumé, Memoir).

Contains frontispiece, (iv), 72 printed pages of text with 16 monochrome illustrations and archive photographs throughout. Slight soiling to the pale covers and in Very Good sound condition.
