He wrote vividly in fiction and nonfiction about everything from the early days of the Texas Republic to the making of the atomic bomb. His real gift was capturing the Texas Zeitgeist. Legendary Harper's Magazine editor Willie Morris called Shrake's essay 'Land of the Permanent Wave' one of the two best pieces Morris ever published during his tenure at the magazine. High praise, indeed, when one considers that Norman Mailer and Seymour Hersh were just two of the luminaries featured at Harper's during Morris's reign. This anthology is the first to present and explore Shrake's writing completely, including his journalism, fiction, and film work, both published and previously unpublished. The collection makes innovative use of his personal papers and letters to explore the connections between his journalism and his novels, between his life and his art. An exceptional behind-the-scenes look at his life, Land of the Permanent Wave reveals and reveres the life and calling of a writer whose legacy continues to influence and engage readers and writers. Edwin A. "Bud" Shrake Jr. (September 6, 1931 - May 8, 2009) was an American journalist, sportswriter, novelist, biographer and screenwriter. He co-wrote a series of golfing advice books with golf coach Harvey Penick, including Harvey Penick's Little Red Book, a golf guide that became the best-selling sports book in publishing history. Called a "lion of Texas letters" by the Austin American-Statesman, Shrake was a member of the Texas Film Hall of Fame, and received the Lon Tinkle lifetime achievement award from the Texas Institute of Letters and the Texas Book Festival Bookend Award.…

Paperback. Zustand: Good. Celebrate Anglicanism is an extremely accessible introduction to Anglicanism -- and in particular to its North American expression.  For any who want to understand the basics of Christian Faith and the way that Faith has come to be handed on by those who would describe themselves as Anglican Christians this book covers all the basics. Celebrate Anglicanism is written by a layman for the laity of the Anglican Church.  The book is for those who are curious, who want to learn, who need basic knowledge.  It is for ordinary Christians and those who are considering claiming their vocations as laymen and women in the world.  The book is an invitation to becoming a disciple, and being informed enough to invite others into following Christ as committed and informed Anglicans. Celebrate Anglicanism is divided into seven chapters.  It encourages use by groups -- classes -- where together inquirers can discover the treasure that is the Christian Faith in the Anglican Way.  There are lots of questions to connect what is being learned to personal reflection or group discussion. The appendices offer everything from the classic creeds to a Church Constitution to contemporary statements from global gatherings. Celebrate Anglicanism is particularly useful in describing the way in which historic and global Anglicanism has been recovered and renewed in the Anglican Church in North America.  Indeed, the book helps one understand how the emergence of the Anglican Church in North America is the fruit of a world-wide Reformation of Anglicanism.  Among the stories that are told is how the Global Anglican Future Conference of 2008 called for the formation of the Anglican Church of North America as part of the re-centering of world-wide Anglicanism on the Faith once for all delivered to the saints.  The second Global Anglican Future Conference has meet in 2013 where the North American Province took its place as part of the great missionary movement, which is 21st century orthodox Anglicanism. As one whose ministry has been concerned to offer the fullness of Anglicanism as a very reliable way to invite, form, disciple, and deploy committed Christians, I commend Celebrate Anglicanism to those who are looking for a new life in Christ and to those who are charged with preparing souls for such a life in the Anglican Way. Laid in is an annotated call sheet dated April 8, 1977, with annotations in manuscript pencil. Altovise Davis starred in six films and made several guest appearances on television shows in the 1970s and 1980s, but is best known as Sammy Davis Jr.'s third wife. A group of townsfolk are trapped in a remote hotel when a horde of migrating tarantulas overruns the town. A cult classic, and one of the best remembered of the "nature on the rampage" films of the 1970s, in no small part due to William Shatner's starring performance as veterinarian Dr. Rack Hansen. Sneller, Stephen Lodge, and Alan Caillou. 123 leaves, with last page of text numbered 108.
