This work introduces new categorizations of cocktails into two main types: aromatic and sour; and of ingredients into three categories: the base, modifying agents, and special flavorings and coloring agents. Embury provides his list of the six basic drinks, being the Daiquiri, the Jack Rose, the Manhattan, the Martini, the Old Fashioned, and the Sidecar, as well as his preferred recipe for each.
