Al día siguiente del primer encuentro de su autora con el famoso escritor Jean Genet ?al que veneraba?, éste declaró: «No quiero volver a verla, me contradice una y otra vez. Además, Lydie es una mujer, y yo odio a las mujeres». Devastada ante ese inesperado destierro, decidió escribir un poema tan bello que lo obligaría a regresar a ella. Desafió al maestro, además, jugando a su propio juego, con sus mismas reglas. Genet, niño abandonado, ladrón, desertor del ejército, homosexual que ejerció la prostitución. . . vivió siempre en los márgenes y descubrió muy pronto cómo hacer frente a todas esas categorías de la exclusión: aceptar hasta sus últimas consecuencias cada uno de los insultos que recibía, adornarse con ellos con fervor místico, recibirlos como una condecoración. Afirmarse en la ignominia, tensar, destilar hasta tal punto la infamia que centellease, hasta que, gracias a su verbo, despidiese el más resplandeciente fulgor y se tornara gloriosa. En su universo literario, los criminales son libres, únicos, épicos. En este universo, por supuesto, están vetadas las mujeres: su destino carece de todo heroísmo, su destino no es otro que la oscuridad. Olvidadas y negadas en sus libros, en este poema de Lydie Dattas renacen, sin embargo, para vengarse. Envuelta en su penumbra, también ella aceptará el insulto ?ser mujer? y sublimará las palabras hasta que las tinieblas de la indignidad femenina destellen un albor que consiga cegar al poeta. Si Genet no la creía capaz de alcanzarle, se equivocaba. «He recibido una bofetada», declaró él tras leer este texto. Y, en efecto, en el paradójico mundo de estos dos grandes líricos, el poema fue bofetada y fue abrazo, fue enfrentamiento y fue amistad. El poeta regresó a ella, a la mujer que era.
