Il pose un nouveau problème qui doit retenir notre attention, car il est en étroite liaison avec ceux qui concernent la bataille des Thermo-pyles, traités dans ce volume. Il sagit dune stèle de marbre trouvée à Trézène, reproduisant un « décret du dêmos Athênaiôn », relatif à la préparation de la lutte des Grecs contre lenvahisseur perse, et à lévacuation dAthènes, par le transfert des femmes et des enfants à Trézène. M. Jameson (p. 206) date la stèle de la deuxième moitié du ive siècle av. J.-C., mais la considère comme une reproduction de loriginal, datant du ve siècle. Cette découverte provoquera sans aucun doute de nombreuses discussions parmi les épigraphistes et les historiens. Déjà G. Daux, BCII 84 (1960), p. 687-688, prend position contre lauthenticité et fait dexpresses réserves. Chr. Habicht (Falsche Urkunden zur Geschichte Athens im Zeitalter der Perserkriege, in Hermes 89, Heft 1, janvier 1961, pp. 1 et suiv.) entreprend de démontrer, dans une savante étude, par des arguments dépigraphie et de langue, quil sagit dun faux. L. Moretti, dans la Rivista di Filologia., 1960, p. 390 et s., ainsi que Margherita Guarducci dans la même revue, 1961, p. 48 et ss., avec des arguments de caractère historique, nient lauthenticité de la stèle de Trézène.
