Hard Cover. Zustand: Good. Brown paper covered boards with a small, centered pastedown illustration. Brown cloth spine. 47 pp., plus 12 color plates tipped in on thin black cardstock paper. A collections of songs, with lyrics and music, from the Book of Katherine's Friends by Emily Niles Huyck. With color illustrations by Helen Therese Damrosch, an American illustrator who served as an artist on 13 expeditions with the Tropical Research Dept. of the New York Zoological Society. This includes sketching underwater on zinc plates. She also illustrated several books (see archiveswest website). GOOD condition with heavy scuffing and bumping to the extremities, resulting in some loss of paper. General scuffing and fading to the book, with minor soiling. Interior solid, with the paper toned.

With A Portrait Frontispiece of Damrosch. (illustrator). Very Good (minor edgewear; contents clean & tight except for offsetting from newspaper article inside front cover. Small quarto: printed tan wraps; 12 pages. New York Times news clipping laid in about the unveiling of a portrait of Damrosch. An uncommon booklet First Edition. Signed presentation from Julius Henry Cohen to James McEwan on a front black page: ?To James McEwan, many compliments, Julius Henry Cohen.? Booklet contains a poem composed to celebrate Frank Damrosch?s 70th birthday. Laid in is a typed letter signed, dated Nov.21, 1929 and on Cohen's personalized stationery, presenting the book. Damrosch [1859?1937] was a German-born American music conductor and educator. In 1905, Damrosch founded the New York Institute of Musical Art, which later became the Juilliard School. In 1892, Damrosch founded the People's Singing Classes designed to instruct interested adults, especially working people, in the rudiments of music and to perform great choral works. Two years later the advanced classes were organized into the People's Choral Union and was under his personal supervision until 1913. Julius Henry Cohen was an influential lawyer in the first half of the twentieth century. He assisted in the formation of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and served as its general counsel for more than twenty years; he served as a founding member of the American Arbitration Association; along with Louis Brandeis, he helped resolve the 1910 garment workers? strike in New York. The poetic tribute to Damrosch appears to be written by him. Signed.
