Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Volumes from the Household edition. 2 volumes bound in one. Large 8vo. (9.9 x 7.5 inches). Text in double column. American Notes & Pictures from Italy are finely illustrated with eighteen engravings, some full page, by Frost and Thomson, The Uncomercial Traveller with twenty six by Dalziel. Attractive early leather binding of half black calf. Spine with raised bands, each with gilt floral design. Compartments ruled in gilt and decorated with blind stamped chain borders and floral centre tool. Red and olive morocco labels, ruled and lettered in gilt. Marbled paper on boards. Tan endpapers. Some offsetting to both free endpapers, probably a reaction to the glue used in the paste-downs. All edges speckled. Some minor rubbing to extremities and scratching to the leather of the two bottom outer board corner pieces, but overall this is a lovely copy in a fine Victorian binding.…

Zustand: Very Good. 8vo. (7.3 x 5 inches). Beautifully illustrated with 8 full page colour printed plates engraved by Dalziel, each with a tissue guard. A very good copy in an attractive early binding of full burgundy calf. Spine with raised bands, each with gilt wavy line decoration. Compartments double ruled and fully decorated in gilt. Double ruled gilt borders to both boards. Marbled endpapers. All edges marbled. Gilt stamped school arms on the front board. The binding is unsigned but is certainly the work of a master bindery. A little rubbing to the edges but still a lovely copy in a fine early leather binding. The book is not dated but a search of Copac shows a copy of this same edition in the Cambridge University Library where they have dated its publication to 1883.…
