Cuando un poeta llega a dar su vida en las luchas políticas, la inmediata posteridad suele explicablemente dramatizar el holocausto, poniendo el acento en la zona más grave y riesgosa de su compromiso, y a veces (pero no siempre) en el nivel más profundo de su indagación artística. En España fue el caso de Miguel Hernández y García Lorca; en América Latina, el de Otto René Castillo, Ibero Gutiérrez, Javier Heraud, Ricardo Morales, Leonel Rugama, Francisco Urondo y también Roque Dalton. Sin embargo, ese justo rescate de una actitud coherente y valerosa, corre el riesgo, sobre todo en este último caso, de opacar otro rasgo primordial, por cierto no tan frecuente en la poesía latino-americana: el ejercicio del humor. En el caso de Roque Dalton, más que hablar de humor en poesía, habría que hablar de humor poético. En poetas como Huerta o Nazoa es dable detectar el humor casi en estado de pureza, y debe reconocerse que esa limpidez consolida su eficacia y ayuda grandemente a que el lector asimile o adivine el contexto poético que rodea aquel chispazo. Roque en cambio elabora poéticamente el humor; lo convierte en poesía antes de soltarlo sobre la página. Desde su primer libro, La ventana en el rostro, habla de "los pobres locos que hasta la risa confundimos / y a quienes la alegría se de lágrimas". Y allí también admite: "Está uno y su cara. Uno y su cara / de santón farsante". Este poeta, que en el trato personal era un fabuloso narrador de chistes (los coleccionaba, casi como un filatélico), nunca llevó a su poesía la broma en bruto, sino la metáfora humorística, que por cierto no siempre era sencilla o fácilmente asimilable, ya que por lo común estaba rodeada de resonancias culturales. Cuando menciona, por ejemplo, que "las hojas se secaron entre las obras de Kipling" o en el brevísimo "Después de la bomba atómica", cuando se pregunta: "Polvo serán, mas ¿polvo enamorado?", el humor se da en un ámbito de cultura, sin el cual perdería su efecto. *** Nota: Los envíos a España peninsular, Baleares y Canarias se realizan a través de mensajería urgente. Ninguno de los poemas aparece firmado por Roque Dalton, sino firmados por Vilma Flores, Timoteo Lúe, Jorge Cruz, Juan Zapata y Luis Luna. Más que seudónimos, son heterónimos, como los de Fernando Pessoa, pues cada uno de «los autores» tiene una biografía propia. El denominador común es que todos habían pasado por las aulas universitarias. De alguna forma, eso significaba afirmar que, para Dalton, el sujeto de la revolución en El Salvador no sería un etéreo «proletariado» descontextualizándose así el producto del análisis de Marx, quien tenía en el horizonte de sus preocupaciones a la sociedad capitalista industrial de fines del siglo XIX, en concreto, a Inglaterra, esa sociedad inglesa industrial cuyos bajos fondos retrata magistralmente el Oliver Twist de Dickens, sino que provendría de la pequeña burguesía, los estudiantes y los intelectuales, pero adoptando el proyecto histórico y los valores éticos de las mayorías populares como suyos. «La pequeña burguesía» es el título de uno de los poemas, donde el autor advierte sobre lo que ocurre cuando este sector quiere transformar la sociedad desentendiéndose del dolor de las mayorías populares, de tal suerte que hacer la revolución se convierte en un acto frívolo. . . Para un intelectual, pero sobre todo si ese intelectual es poeta, ¿cómo debe hacerse la revolución? En opinión de Roque Dalton, el poeta revolucionario debe poner en función del proyecto histórico transforma-dor no sólo su participación en organizaciones políticas y el trabajo conocido tradicionalmente como intelectual, sino también la poesía misma, razón del ser poeta. Pero la Modernidad ha situado a la poesía y, por extensión, a la estética, fuera del «mundo de la vida», es decir, del mundo cotidiano. ¿Qué hacer?
