Barbarina Ogle Brand, Lady Dacre, 1768-1854, was one of the most accomplished women of her era. She was a writer, poet, playwright, translator, sculptor, artist and more. Not noted in the books but her daughter Arabella Sullivan was the author of the "Tales" . SIGNED AND INSCRIBED "TO A. PANIZZI, ESQ. FROM B. DACRE". "A" Panizzi was Anthony Panizzi, who at the time of publication of these volumes was the first Assistant Librarian at the British Museum Library, later becoming the Principal Librarian in 1856. Just prior to joining the British Museum Library Panizzi, in 1831 published a new edition of Matteo Maria Boiardo's "Orlando Innamorato" (considered to be Panizzi's great literary work) which garnered the attention and appreciation of Italian literary scholars like "B.
