De la Prehistoria a los tiempos contemporáneos contiene veintidós aportaciones sobre la temática, organizadas en cinco secciones en función de las grandes etapas históricas. La segunda sección se dedica a la época romana, prestando una especial atención tanto a las últimas investigaciones en la necrópolis, como a los resultados de la brillante actividad arqueológica en el conjunto urbano, complementados con el estudio del panteón religioso. De la etapa medieval se ocupa la tercera sección, con aportaciones sobre las áreas funerarias, la religión en la Carmona musulmana, los conventos medievales, la devoción mariana o las persecuciones religiosas. La religión y la espiritualidad en época moderna son los objetivos de la cuarta sección, que trata del papel de la Iglesia en el momento, deteniéndose asimismo en manifestaciones tan expresivas como son las hermandades y procesiones, o las ermitas y los ermitaños de Carmona. La quinta se ocupa de la época contemporánea hasta el presente, tratando de la espiritualidad y la organización de la religión en los tiempos recientes, la específica devoción a la Virgen de Gracia, algunas manifestaciones peculiares de la expresión urbana del devocionario, concluyendo con la visión que de la religiosidad en Carmona nos aporta J. E. Pensemos em indivíduos hipotéticos que vivessem toda uma vida sem se questionarem sobre a existência de uma entidade criadora do que existe ou a fonte do sentido para a existência do homem e do mundo. Este é um exercício difícil porque não reconhecemos traços de humanidade nesses indivíduos hipotéticos. Talvez algumas pessoas tenham sido e sejam assim. Talvez. É justo, contudo, afirmar a seu respeito que lhes falta algo, como se a grandeza da condição humana passasse obrigatoriamente por uma relação pessoal com a questão de Deus. O mesmo poderia ser afirmado a respeito de uma sociedade que não tivesse crenças religiosas, comportamentos abertamente religiosos e em que ninguém apelasse ao religioso. A imaginação de uma sociedade deste tipo é ainda mais violenta porque ainda mais improvável. Seja como for, a relação entre os seres humanos e o religioso é inesgotável. O presente volume procura compreender alguns dos aspectos dessa relação.

The authors that advanced those lines of research believe that there is a fundamental idea that has been overlooked in the research done about the brain until the present: that the brain is a prediction machine with the function of creating hypotheses about the causes of our sensory signals and predictions of possible future sensory signals. Moreover, the internal models of the world created this way are constantly challenged by incorporating the errors of the previous models into new models. From this point of view, the brain's work could be described as a process of making predictions about the upcoming sensory data based on its best current models of the causes of those data.This book intends to critically analyze this theory and its subsequent theoretical and empirical consequences. To achieve that, the volume brings together some of the best experts on Predictive Processing - such as Thomas Metzinger, Wanja Wiese, or Mark Miller - with the goal of presenting some of the advantages of this approach but also some of its caveats.
