Taaschenbuch. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. The First printing published by C.S. O Fallamain, Dublin in 1928. Edited by An Seabhac [Padraig O Siochfhradh] and published in the Irish language. The BOOK is in Very Good condition with the original publisher's light red paper covered boards, with quarter maroon linen spine. Titles in black to spine. Some edge-wear and discolouration to the boards (see images). The corners are bumped but the binding remains firm. Internally clean and bright with just a few light underlinings. The book is protected in a loose Mylar archival cover. The author found wider fame when this title, translated as' Island Cross-Talk', and 'An tOileanach' (1929) translated as 'The Islandman', were issued in English, with the author anglicised as 'Thomas O'Crohan'. A classic journal of life on Great Blasket Island in the early twentieth century. Extremely elusive as the true first printing with COPAC listing only a handful in institutions. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.

Hardcover. Zustand: Good. 1st Edition. A solid early twentieth century Irish language cloth edition of An tOileánach by Tomás O Crioráin, also known as Tomas O Criomhthain, one of the key narrative voices of the Blasket Island literary tradition. Though far less commonly encountered than the later and more widely printed An tOileanach editions from the 1930s onward, this earlier State press issue from Clólucht an Tálbóidigh Teoranta represents one of the first printings of the text of government sponsored Gaelic orthography and production standards. This edition retains the original red cloth binding with black titling, a fragile format seldom found intact. The internal typography is a clean example of early Gaelic State printing, reflecting the cultural and linguistic priorities of the period. The narrative showcases O Criomhthain's authentic voice in Irish, marked by his direct observational style and the distinctive idiom of the Blasket Islands. CONDITION Good overall Red cloth boards show fading, mottling, and scattered spotting consistent with age. Corners rubbed and slightly frayed, cloth shows age toning and handling marks. Spine lettering still visible though dulled, slight lean to spine. Internally clean and crisp, pages exhibit uniform toning typical for the period. Binding tight and fully intact with no loose gatherings. Complete and sound example of a title that rarely appears in original cloth.
