A drama about William Ruthven, 1st Earl of Gowrie, the Scottish nobleman behind the Raid of Ruthven in 1582. Ruthven and several other Scottish nobles abducted King James VI in an attempt to halt the influence of French and pro-Catholic policy and to prevent the return of Mary, Queen of Scots from England. Ruthven was executed for high treason in 1584. A good copy with some scattered foxing and browning to the text. A few pages have some heavy spotting in the right margin. The binding is good with some scuffing to the spine and cover corners. A scarce work with only 3 copies located in WorldCat of this edition.
