In den Warenkorb1p. ALS on headed notepaper in original hand-written envelope. Faint creasing to letter from original folding. Fine. 1p. ALS FROM SIR JOHN GIELGUD TO THEATRE DESIGNER EDWARD CRAIG. Film art director Edward Craig, known as Edward Carrick [1905-1998], was the son of the pioneering theatre designer Edward Gordon Craig [1872-1966]. Craig père was the son of the leading Victorian actress Ellen Terry; Gielgud was Terry's great-nephew. All of which makes Gielgud and Craig fils cousins. Gielgud's letter thanks Craig for an unnamed book he had sent him, and to apologise for the delayed response ('I have been away in Italy for three months doing a Television Film [War and Remembrance] and have been pretty tired since I got back.'). We can find no record of a book by Carrick/Craig published that year, but whatever the title Gielgud was full of praise ('Love and congratulations on your really lovely work.') In the original postal envelope, and very well preserved.
