Pages and illustrations are heavily tanned with noticeable foxing throughout. More pronounced to free endpapers and pastedowns. Binding is slightly loose. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Moderate sunning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Visible wear marks to boards. Gilt lettering is darkened.

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. Bound in a stout library cloth binding. Old library label on endpaper, but otherwise this is a clean and sound copy (no ink stamps) of these two complete years of the journal. xxvii, 234 and xxix,267 pages. Some nice plates and other illustrations.

Volume XIV contains ten black and white plates. All volumes contain numerous in-text illustrations. Collated, complete. Volume III, VI and XIV of the New Series of this quarterly journal and review, The Reliquary and Illustrated Archaeologist, devoted to the study of the early Pagan and Christian antiquities of Britain; Medieval architecture and ecclesiology; the development of the arts and industries of mankind in past times; and the survivals of ancient usages and appliances in the present. Volume III (1897) and VI (1900) were edited by J. Romilly Allen (1847-1907), a British archaeologist particularly interested in the antiquities of Wales and Scotland. Volume XIV (1908) is a presentation copy, and was edited by Rev. J. Charles Cox (1843-1919), an English cleric and local historian. Articles include: The Stourhead Collection in the Wiltshire Archaeological Society's Museum at Devizes by E. H. Goddard; The Evolution of the Textile Industries by J. Stated copy 220 of 500 printed on "small paper" on limitation page. Includes a large fold out map of Old Northampton, with light wear to folds. With the bookplate of W.H. Duignan of Walsall affixed to front endpaper in both volumes. William Henry Duignan (1824-1914) lived in Walsall, England, roughly an hour and a half from Northampton, for the duration of his life. He was an antiquarian and historian, writing on local British history and the etymology of place-naming, also known as toponymy.
